West Melbourne, FL - West Melbourne 50¶È»Òfor Science (WMSS) marked a significant milestone today with the commencement of construction on its state-of-the-art classroom building dedicated to Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) education. The groundbreaking ceremony witnessed the unveiling of plans for an innovative facility designed to improve students' educational experiences.
The new building, slated for completion in January 2025, underscores BPS' commitment to providing cutting-edge educational opportunities. The facility promises to cultivate creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration among students by boasting advanced amenities, including modern science labs, a dedicated STEAM lab, an art classroom, and a music classroom.
The ceremony commenced with a musical performance by the talented WMSS Choir. Esteemed speakers included BPS Superintendent Dr. Mark Rendell, WMSS Principal Theresa Benson, 50¶È»ÒBoard member Katye Campbell (District 5), Mayor Pat Bentley of West Melbourne, BPS Assistant Superintendent of Facilities Services Sue Hann, and Johnathan Wilkes, Project Executive at Wharton-Smith Construction Group.
The ceremonial groundbreaking, led by Principal Benson alongside WMSS Student Council members, symbolized the beginning of a new chapter in the school's journey toward excellence in education.
"This expansion will not only allow more students to attend and experience our school, our incredible faculty, and our STEAM focus, but it will also impact and expand the minds of not only our current students but our future students to think bigger," Principal Benson said.
